How do we get the fuses prepped for summer use? The winter cold often takes a heavy toll on the poor feet - the skin is rough, hard and the heels may even be cracked. We have put together a quick guide on how to easily make a Do It Yourself spa so that your feet become sandal-worthy - and a little extra happy. Because as you know… summer is coming!
Foot bath makes happy
It is always a good idea to start your foot spa with a foot bath. Find your best tub with room for two feet, and fill the tub with lukewarm water.
Tip: If you are a lucky holder of glass balls or smooth stones, you can place these at the bottom of the tub. They work incredibly well as massage objects.
Everything good from the bathroom cabinet
Once the water has entered the tub, you can kindly spice it up with "everything good from the bathroom cabinet". It can be bath salts, essential oils or body wash . We recommend that you do the following: - Pour body wash into the water to soften the feet - Add bath salt to the water to dissolve the dead skin cells - Pour 10 drops of essential oil (eucalyptus or peppermint, as these two types of oils cool, reduce swelling and removes soreness) - Soak your feet for approx. 10-15 minutes (and maybe put on a section of HappyPods in the meantime)
Scrub and exfoliate - like there's no tomorrow
Empty your foot bath and refill it with clean, lukewarm water. It's time for exfoliation! You can either buy a finished foot scrub or make it yourself. Psst! We’ve put together our favorite recipes for homemade foot scrubs at the bottom of the post. Massage the scrub well and thoroughly into the feet and especially the places where the hard skin sits. Feel free to moisten your feet with the clean water while scrubbing. Then you can use a pim stone (a natural form of foot file). This is used to remove the hard skin.
Tip: Avoid scraping too much of the hard skin off, as it often results in the hard skin returning three times - and we should not enjoy any of that!
Silky smooth summer feet
Once you have scrubbed and filleted your feet, it is time to smear them into a foot cream. It could possibly be this delicious foot cream from Rituals from our Sunny Side Up Goodiebox. If you do not have a cream specifically for your feet, you can also use a regular, oily cream.
Tip: For ultra soft feet, you can take a foot conditioner and pull on a pair of cotton socks that you sleep with overnight. The next day, your feet are “silky smooth” and battle-ready for beach and summer.
Preppin 'pedicure
The last step in your DIY foot spa is pedicure. Push the cuticles down, cut and file the nails and apply an oil to the cuticles. If you do not have a specific oil for the cuticles, you can use coconut oil, almond oil or argan oil. Now that you're in the process - why not just throw a fresh and cheerful summer varnish on your toes, as the final finishing touch? We even love fine pastels (e.g. Anti Social Climber from Nails Inc from our Dancing In The Rain Goodiebox) or a beautiful nude tone.
A quickie that moves
If you do not have time for the big home spa and have a holiday ahead, you can go a long way with a good foot mask. The Baby Foot mask is a great offer! Take the mask on your feet and sit with it for a 1 hour. After a week, the hard skin will peel off just as quietly. You
Tip: Wear the mask a few weeks before you go out and flash your feet in colorful sandals.
One voila - how to make the perfect DIY foot spa and achieve delicious summer fuss for sun and happy days. For remember: Happy feet are healthy feet.
